- Hannah Slapper
WHAT IS IT:
A film which blows open the porn industry, if you'll excuse the pun. Amanda Seyfried plays the infamous Linda Lovelace - '70s porn icon and star of the surprisingly successful Deep Throat - in a sensational biopic that has the media in a frenzy.
WHERE IS IT:
At your local cinema - it was released on Friday, so should be available in most (liberal) theatres.
WHEN IS IT:
Whenever you decide to treat yourself to 93 minutes of flesh-filled drama.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
A mixture of bad-taste humour and genuinely scary scenes of violence and abuse thanks to Peter Sarsgaard. Well, that's what we can gather from the reviews anyway. Also some giggling or gasping from the audience, and plenty of excellent '70s styling to admire.
WHO YOU SHOULD GO WITH:
Friends who will not judge you for going to see a film about porn, and anyone who likes sheer panels.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO THERE:
Order popcorn and brace yourself for watching your favourite Mean Girl perform fellatio on screen. Officially the end of your youth.
WHY YOU SHOULD BE GOING:
Because everybody is talking about this. Although the reviews are a definite mixed bag, IMDB gives it a 6.1 rating, the cast is insane. Adam Brody features, as does former Fresh Face Juno Temple, and the mighty James Franco plays a pleasingly smarmy Hugh Hefner. There's also a brief appearance of Chloë Sevigny, and anything she gives a stamp of approval must have some kind of stylish merit.
WHAT YOU SHOULD WEAR:
This is the perfect excuse to do the '70s thing. Big floaty maxi dresses, huge hair, wide-eyed barely-there make up and excellent platform sandals. If you can get a floaty sleeve in there you earn extra points. Just no lingerie, leave that to Lovelace. Check out our look below for some tips on getting that retro look. Have other ideas?
