- Hannah Slapper
NAME: Saoirse Ronan (pronounced sir-sha)
FROM: Born in New York, but has lived in County Carlow, Ireland, since she was three years old
SIGNATURE STYLE: In trend-led casual Urban Outfitters style when off duty, think collars, chunky knits and brogues. In fresh modern designers for the red carpet, including Christopher Kane and Proenza Schouler, with a particular penchant for Simone Rocha.
YOU MIGHT RECOGNISE HER FROM... some of the most successful films of the last decade. Her career kickstarted when she played the young Briony Tallis in Atonement, alongside Keira Knightley, James McAvoy and Juno Temple. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the tender age of twelve, and since then the roles have come flooding in. She moved us as the murdered protagonist of The Lovely Bones, and thrilled us as the child assassin in Hanna. Most recently she has excited our Stephanie Meyer fetish as the dual-character of Melanie Stryder and The Wanderer in sci-fi romance, The Host.
WE LOVE HER BECAUSE... she's patriotic. Being incredibly popular creates a certain amount of power and influence, and rather than focussing on superficial indulgences, Ronan makes sure she is spending her time wisely. She supports the Irish Blue Cross, an animal charity that helped her find her beloved lost dog, Sassie. She also worked for free in a campaign to persuade Irish food manufacturers to consider a more sustainable approach, and is the official face of the ISPCC.
WE CAN'T WAIT FOR... her upcoming projects. Her vampire film Byzantium is out this summer, and the adaptation of Meg Rosoff's How I Live Now is set for release in October. She's also working alongside Bill Murray, Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Jude Law and Owen Wilson in Wes Anderson's latest project, The Grand Budapest Hotel. In a bitter and impressive career move, we've also learned that she's starring in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, How to Catch A Monster. Jealous doesn't even cut it.
INTERESTINGLY, Ronan auditioned for the part of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter series. She is also a diehard Lady Gaga fan.
