What To Wear

How To Wear - OrientalismOne of our favourite Autumn Winter trends was the use of Orientalism in designs, whether it was through religious symbols, traditional cuts, colours or heritage Eastern materials. The delicate and historical ambiance of an oriental look is easy to get across without looking like you're donning a pastiche to the Ming Dynasty.

Start with shape. The high-necked collar on this Cedric Charlier blouse isn't exactly Mandarin (as it doesn't have the traditional opening at the front) but it certainly connotes it, especially as the shape is similar to traditional Chinese silk blouses, with the short sleeves and boxy shape. Match with some Suno tailored pants in a modern shape, but with a delicate Oriental floral pattern in black and petal pink. The warmth of this colour can be brought out by some notes of burgundy.

As well as being a very current colour, this deep rich red certainly speaks of the Orient. Notes of it are all you need, so something like a Stella McCartney hat matched with a classic Proenza Schouler tote.

To inject a little fun into the simplicity of this outfit, you can add some '70s vibes by playing with curvaceous shapes - such as the heel on Miu Miu's coveted suede ankle boots, and the frames on the Prada sunglasses, cleverly chosen in the same delicate pink as the trousers.

With such a thoughtful and intelligent collection of items which all compliment and challenge each other, you only need the most classic and simple Carven black coat to keep you warm - your feminine outfit will speak for itself.
