Today Stella McCartney's special Selfridges dedication is launched. Significant amounts of the luxury department store's window and floor space are being taken over by her products and designs. From today until February 14 shoppers can purchase items from her Spring Summer 2012 collection, her sensual lingerie, her range for children and a ground floor installation housing her collaborative line with Adidas, My2012. The sports luxe items celebrate her involvement with the fast approaching 2012 London Olympics, and her designs for Team GB.
During these three weeks there will be many events and ongoing activities as part of the Stella festival. The launch of her new fragrance L.I.L.Y is just one of many things to look forward to during this time. Amongst the daily face-painting and lingerie monogramming and fitting services, there will be a chance to win £1,500 to spend on Stella products, and also a chance to meet the designer herself.
On February 8 she will be visiting the store to see the various displays and pop-ups, and to meet and greet fans while signing bottles of her perfume. Vogue editor Alexandra Schulman will be conducting a rarely seen personal interview with the designer for a few lucky onlookers, followed by an appropriately lavish cocktail party.
With all this buzz occurring, you would think the team at Selfridges would be looking forward to a well earned break in the Spring, but they've already planned their next extravaganza. The Big British Bang will be the next store theme, set to appear from May 4 to the end of August. The features will include a 'Yellow Shop', where every item sold will only be available in the sunny shade synonymous with their shopping bags, and a 'Great British Shop' where exclusive union jack themed items or truly British designs from big names will be flooding the shelves. After a day of patriotic shopping, guests will be able to relax as Selfridges will also be hosting the Big British Tea Party on the roof of their impressive building, what they're claiming to be the 'highest tea on Oxford Street', complete with waiter service and, surprisingly, a crazy golf course.
So it looks like 2012 will be yet another big year full of cleverly planned and enticing store events at Selfridges, we just hope they enjoy organising them as much we we enjoy attending them.
