The Suzy Menkes Collection at Christie's

- Hannah Slapper

Paris Fashion Week - Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 - Haute Couture - Chanel Arrivals and Front Row

It's time to wave goodbye to your summer savings, Christie's auction house has yet another exciting single-owner collection on offer. After a myriad of famous wardrobes under the hammer, including Daphne Guinness and Elizbaeth Taylor, we are delighted to inform you that Suzy Menkes is next on the list.

Beloved by everyone in the industry, the head fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune has been an iconic presence both on the front row, and the page. Her fierce, witty writing style has entertained us for years, and her balanced and truthful show reviews have garnered an unequalled respect in designers and editors alike.

Suzy Menkes

It's not easy to go through a forty-year career in the world of fashion and still remain loved by all, but it's a testament to her integrity as a writer, and sunny disposition as a person. So, it is fitting that the 80 lots in the Christie's auction reflect the colourful and irreverent personality traits that Menkes is famous for.

The online-only auction contains some of our favourite Menkes ensembles, from heavily printed Christian Lacroix numbers to Paul Smith trench coats and Ossie Clark floral maxi skirts. However, the stars of the show come in the form of a 1980 Yves Saint Laurent pistachio and pastel pink jacket from the iconic 'le soleil' collection, and a gloriously kooky personalised 'Suzy' Chanel bag. Menkes herself has said she 'loved Yves Saint Laurent for dressing a woman for the boardroom and the boudoir'. We couldn't have put it better ourselves.

Suzy Menkes with the legend that is Karl Lagerfeld.

Want to hear the good news? Items start as low as £200, with many under £1000. Kicking of on July 11th, for a fortnight only, it's the perfect time to spend a little money in preparation for the summer ahead. Well, if it stops raining away. Maybe some of her beautiful and unique clothes will bring a little 'soleil' with them?
